The common mistake most young candidates make is making too much of a big deal on their resume picture. A photo takes too much valuable space on your resume. This space could be used for more important information that highlights your skills, achievements, awards and work experiences.

Secondly, most resume samples these days go straight into an electronic recruiter system and read on screen by recruiters and hiring managers. Your photo in this process doesn’t factor in at all.

And most of all, having a picture in your resume can be used as a basis for discrimination. Whether conscious or not, people have prejudice and make assumptions based on race, age and disability. Your resume is a tool which will help you secure an interview – you need to keep decision-makers focused on your skills and experience rather than what you look like (unless you’re looking for a modeling career).
