Create a cover letter
that is short, but comprehensive.
One key factor in making
your cover letter effective is its over-all look and layout. For the most part, your cover letter is scanned for just
10-30 seconds—it doesn't receive a full reading the first time! That's why it's
important to keep your cover letter easy to read and understandable. Use professional-looking fonts (e.g. Sans Serif or Caliber),
limit your font size between 11-12. Make segments of the cover letter short,
but substantial. Make good use of bold and italics to guide the reader's eyes
to all the important information of your cover letter—this will help put more
emphasis on your qualifications for the job. Also, graphics and bullets can
bring attention to the key phrases in your cover letter that need to be
highlighted.
