Letters by Originality: Modern

The modern cover letter focuses on the company it’s directed to, not just the applicant. Gone are the days where you spend paragraph after paragraph detailing your own accomplishments. These days, you also need to demonstrate your genuine. That’s easier said than done, especially when you’re trying to make your cover letter stand out from the crowd. So how can you make a successful modern cover letter ?

Keep your letter short enough that your potential employer can read in 10 seconds. Three paragraphs is the ideal length for your cover letter. The first part should be an intro, the second the meat, and the third one to wrap it all up. The first read of your letter will probably last around 10 seconds or less, depends on the hiring manager. To ensure they actually read your letter, hook their attention with the first sentence. Try a professional but bold statement that catches the reader's eye.

And when they reach the body, focus on two or three skills from the job description. Read the company’s job posting carefully and identify the two two or three qualities that they are looking for in a candidate. Then use your cover letter to demonstrate you have those skills, giving examples of when and how you've used them in the past. Show the recruiter you are ready to give it all from day one.
